Celebrating Spring (2 free recipes!)

Volume III / Issue 5 — 15 March 2022

Spring is just around the corner here in the Midwest. Though in other parts of the country and the world, it’s already well under way. There are two traditional dates for the start of spring in the northern hemisphere:

  1. Meteorological spring starts on March 1st,
  2. Astronomical spring starts on March 21st.

However you choose to honor the start of spring, it is a time of celebration. Historically, spring represented the season of rebirth, or reawakening. Traditions around the world see it as a time to welcome in the new and to begin preparing for an abundant summer and fall, often through seed planting.

In many cultures, seeds are a sign of hope and possibility. This means that spring is a season of hope: Hope in the future—for better and more abundant days ahead. (I used to write extensively about hope, and I’ve shared four of my past blogs at the end of this newsletter for you to read and enjoy, especially if you’re needing a little hope right now.)

I think we could all use some hope right now. With so much upheaval going on in the world, from war to natural disasters, hope might be the only thing we can lean on. As humans, hope is our last vestige. It’s the one thing that remains when all else seems to have gone. My hope is that suffering around the world, for any reason, ceases, and that all beings may know peace, love, and yes … hope.

Please join me in celebrating this season of renewal, which we are doing by publishing Joanna’s final installment in her year-long series: The Seasonal Table. To celebrate the SPRING edition, we’ve shared two of its recipes below, so that you can get cooking before the book arrives next week. Enjoy!

All my best,

Hope restores love when fear has taken over.
