When the Muse Strikes

Volume II / Issue 20 — 5 October 2021

Isabel Allende has a great quote about writing: “Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too.”

If you google “when the muse strikes” you are instantly offered countless quotes, blogs, and websites to help you work and play with your muse. Whether you’re an artist, a writer, or another creative, knowing when and how to work with your muse is important. Personally, I call it “following the breadcrumbs.”

Over the course of my incredibly varied professional life, I have learned that the best way to succeed is to raise your awareness to the breadcrumbs on your path. Once you’re aware of them, you can learn how to follow (or ignore) based on your own discernment. Not everything works, and not everything is meant to work. But if you don’t try, you won’t know. And if you don’t know, you can’t refine and hone your discernment.

One of the things I love doing here at IOM is designing and developing product to accompany our books, but not everything makes it to the website. Being focused in what we create allows for very deliberate and thoughtful product lines. To that end, alongside Taylor Wray’s next book of poetry (which comes out this Thursday!), we are introducing his first line of products, co-created with artist, Frances Vail.

The set of four posters were created specifically with his haiku and represent the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. These are absolutely beautiful, and I can’t wait for you to have them on your wall!

All my best,

We have a lot of great books and products coming this fall. Sign up today to be the first to hear about our upcoming offerings!
